Ways to Get Rid of the Red Ring of Death

As you probably know by now the original models of the Xbox 360 are a complete disaster. At some point in their life, they seem to get the fatal red ring of death error. If your console isn’t under warranty, then Microsoft will not repair it for free. In this case you’re either going to have to pay someone to repair it, or learn how to do it yourself.

What causes the Red Ring of Death anyway?

The RROD in a nutshell, is caused by massive amounts of heat generated from your 360 while you are playing.  The console was not sufficiently designed to handle this kind of heat, and the solder on the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) will break, causing games to freeze, checkered lines to appear and ultimately the dreaded Red Ring of Death.

The good news is that *most* of the time the RROD can be fixed in under an hour if you know what you’re doing.  It’s best to learn how to fix this problem before you decide to just go out and buy a new console.

Here are 5 relatively easy methods to help you fix your RROD on the Xbox 360.

1. The Xclamp Fix
2. The Towel Trick
3. The Penny Trick
4. The Heatgun Fix
5. The Microsoft Fix (Send to Microsoft to Get Repaired if It’s still under Warranty!)
